Linux - Software This forum is for Software issues. Sunday, January 18, Where does cups-pdf put my pdf file? Cups-pdf is a great tool if you want to print files to pdf format. It installs very easily in Ubuntu Intrepid : just do sudo apt-get install cups-pdf , and you will see a 'PDF' printer in your printers overview.
It works like a charm, but where do the PDF files go? However, if I print from a web page or from a different application, there is absolutely no dialog box allowing you to see where the file will go. Running a "ps -elfww grep " while that ephemeral file is being created, we find the following processes running: [quote] 4 S root 0 80 0 - wait ?
When cups actually works - the resulting PDF file "does" go to the user's desktop! But, it's when cups fails that the file seems to just disappear. In the example above, the web page viewed was a Centos web page - but in other examples, I was viewing various files of different formats. So, the answer to what the file name Cups uses is that it diligently tries to ascertain a decent file name, based on properties of the file itself!
According to the comments within cups-pdf. I have don multiple searches on the internet with several search terms. I think that a lot of people would like to know the answer.
What would be involved permissionwise to fix what evidently cannot be done the way I thought it could be? Have you heard of a circular file?
