For the car owner, the odor may be puzzling but surely they will be on the hunt for the source. If a leaking heater is suspected, the coolant level may be low.

Most of the time heater cores are located on the passenger side of the vehicle. So next inspect the carpet by pulling it back and looking for coolant. Determine if it is coolant indicating a heater core leak or if it is clear water indicating a leaky or stopped up evaporator drain. The higher the humidity the more likely the windows will fog up. A working AC system removes much of the moisture in the air. The front windshield defroster removes fog quickly in large part due to the AC system. Even when the temperature control is set to warm, the air conditioning compressor is still pumping refrigerant through the ac components and the system is working to help remove the moisture.

I have wind deflectors fitted so windows down a bit and it helps, but not on cold days. BUT I Immediately bought a new pollen filter too mine fogs up too. Had this twice. Old Pug famous for heater matrix corrosion and pissing out coolant into passenger foot well. Caused foggy windscreen with heater on. Though not specific to rain but often heater would be on in rain when colder. Other in the Civic when the air con pump died.

No air con, just moist air, more so in wet weather. Check the drain holes in the scuttle panel under the windscreen. The name that the car industry use i. Without one you will find that the condenser blocks up and your fogging issue will return and get worse. This topic has 36 replies, 31 voices, and was last updated 2 years ago by owenfackrell.

By the way, how can I find recirculation valve to try to unblock it? I can not notice any change in the sound of the climate system when I press recirc button.

The pump just runs to keep the sytem from freezing to to keep it lubed. I enjoy Icy cold air in the summer. Exterior temp sensor is also right on the money.

Recir door works fine. I still get fogging of the windows unless I let the car warm up for ten minutes. Once it warms up, all works fine. Keep it set on 74 in the winter and 70 in the summer. Nice and toasty in the winter and nice and cool in the summer in the cabin. The fog problem is not related to any mechanical problem with the car. I keep our X in a heated garage. Sixty degrees in the garage in the winter even if the outsie temp is degrees.

When I leave from the garage all is fine. When parked outside in a parking lot all day, the key is to warm the car for 10 minutes before taking off. Not a big deal really. Some cars are better than others in this regard. I have to wait for the warmer dryer air to get to the windshield to defrost it before taking off. Seems like it snows about every day here in Northern Michigan. Sometimes a foot at a time.

So, I start the car and get out and start the snow removal process. Snow came up over the hood and just packed the windshield and top of the car full. She had to stop and get out and remove the snow from the hood, top of car and grill areas.

Got back in the car and drove away. Slower this time. Does the compressor only cut in when the temp goes above the setting on the system - even when the tell-tale light is on? I thought that all new cars had this feature for economy reasons.

The later systems such. When you press shortly on the air recycle button, one beep, this activates the filter, but air still comes in. Pressing it longer, two beeps, closes air vents into the car. I believe the moisture you are getting in the morning is partly due the humidity difference between the air outside and AC unit.
