The training program helps participants tell their own stories, with the trainees being hands on in all elements of the production of their videos. Aboriginal English and Kriol are spoken by the majority of students. The School strives for excellent parent-teacher-community support through an open door communication policy, active partnership with the community based Looma Education Committee that maintains vital links between the school and community by providing an open forum for school decision making and a 'Memorandum of Understanding' which is a shared responsibility agreement that addresses key issues within the community and school.

The population varies and it compromises teachers, health, Looma Community support staff and Liveringa Pastoral Company employees. Looma and Camballin have a typical tropical climate.

Temperatures are generally in the high 30's and 40's during the early and late months of the year. The 'dry' season offers near perfect weather. The 'wet' season is worth experiencing with excessive heat, humidity and rainfall, though it can restrict movement.

Tropical thunderstorms prevail at this time of the year. If you ask Looma residents what they remember about March , most will say the screaming. On an otherwise quiet afternoon in the remote Kimberley community, 2,km north of Perth, a year old-girl took her own life. The girl's death, along with those of 12 other children and teenagers across the Kimberley, formed the basis for a coronial inquest, the results of which will be released today. Looma community leader Shannon Killer lived next door to where the young girl died.

He said there was an atmosphere of total panic within the community. Children, including his own, witnessed the tragedy. They were just screaming and crying," Mr Killer said. The senior sergeant is one of two police officers based in Looma and it was his first week at his new posting. Senior Sergeant Ripp said the days following the girl's death were particularly traumatic. At the time, Looma — a remote community of mostly Aboriginal people — was virtually unknown outside the Kimberley.

But echoes of the grief were heard across Australia and the town was thrust into the national spotlight. Politicians and advocates condemned the tragedy, while national media, government workers and advocates flooded to the community.

Health Looma has a community nursing post. Other Looma is equipped with a radio station. Nyigina people — The Nyigina people also spelt Nyikina, and listed as Njikena by Tindale are an Australian Aboriginal group in Western Australia who traditionally spoke the Nyigina language. They come from the lower Fitzroy River which they call mardoowarra.
